An Instant

created for Ballet BC
“The magic that Telford achieves with her 11 dancers is something akin to suspended time, like we enter “an instant”, then rewind, then freeze, then enter it again from a different perspective." Janet Smith/ Georgia Straight

An Instant is inspired by a poem by by Wislawa Szymborska entitled Could Have.

It is an investigation of physical risk and how we feel when close to the edge of the precipice. It involves the awareness of the instant of a freeze frame of momentum...the moment you wake up when chance, circumstance and unpredictability interrupt our planned lives. A critical moment may shift our life direction in a split second. Set to the score Weather One by Michael Gordon it poses the question "what if?".
