"The movements are strung together with rhythmic diversity, punctuated acutely with the consideration of a composer or a beat poet. The performers are fiercely talented dancers and their elastic bodies exhibit a remarkable ability to shift swiftly between qualities and initiation points”. - The Dance Current review of Spooky Action
Inverso Productions
Inverso is a platform for the creation of interdisciplinary performance
Founded in Madrid in 2012 by Lesley Telford, Inverso is now Vancouver-based. It is a platform for exchange, creating dance through the lens of other art forms. This platform aims to develop collaborative ventures with other artists and arts organizations in performances, mediation and dialogue. Inverso's collaborations have involved the visual arts, text and literature, theatre, film, music and science.
The name, Inverso, came about because it interested me to approach creation with a shifted perspective (I was living in Spain at the time and 'inverso' translates to 'inverted'). It also refers to my continued spark to create through 'verse' and literature.
Inverso's first full-length production, alongside Korzo Productions, was Brittle Failure, which was a collaboration between dance and visual art which toured to the Cadance Festival in the Netherlands, International Festival Madrid en Danza, and Chutzpah Festival Vancouver . Inverso recently premiered Spooky Action inspired by quantum physics with poet Barbara Adler and composer James Meger. The company is now working on new creation to be premiered in May 2022.

Spooky Action is inspired by Einstein's famous phrase referring to particles that are so closely linked, they share the same existence. A collaboration with poet/performer Barbara Adler, this new interdisciplinary work weaves together contemporary dance, poetic storytelling and original composition to extend the theory to human connections. In the full length work, we experience entanglement as both pleasure and problem: how do we respond to connectivity that happens beyond our choosing? By turns intricate, refined, and dryly witty, Spooky Action brings together thought-provoking dance and engaging narrative to probe the mysterious ways we act on each other’s lives.

In considering the house as a symbol of permanence, this piece explores the fault lines of its inherent fragility. We live within these formed constructions but they are often less solid and predictable than we imagine. In this collaboration between Lesley Telford and scenographer Yoko Seyama, the structures we live within are seen from a distance, amplifying the effects of human choices, accidents, and perceptions. Brittle Failure is a technical term used to define the conditions under which solid materials fracture under pressure.
